To discover wedding vendors you adore, it’s crucial to have a chat with them before you make any commitments. This is especially important when it comes to photographers, as they’ll be by your side for almost the entire day. In addition to liking their photography style, meeting them in person or having a phone conversation can help ensure that you’ll enjoy their company on your special day.

Are you unsure about how to initiate a conversation with your preferred wedding photographer? Don’t fret. We’ve gathered a list of questions that will help you sift through all the information you need to make an informed decision. So, get ready to ask away and find the photographer who’s just right for you.

Availability

  • Can you confirm if you are available on my wedding date?
  • Will you be personally photographing my wedding, or will someone else be covering for you? If the latter, could we arrange a meeting with the assigned photographer?
  • How many other weddings are scheduled for that particular weekend?
  • Will you be accompanied by any assistants on the day of our wedding?

Certain photographers operate with an assistant at all times, whereas others will decide whether they require one based on the scope of your event. If an assistant is not routinely part of their service, you may be charged extra for including one or a second photographer in your contract.

Inquiring About Photographer’s Background

  • What is your experience in capturing weddings? How many have you photographed?
  • Do you often cover weddings that are similar in size and style to our wedding?
  • Could you share complete photo galleries from some of your recent weddings?
  • Have you photographed weddings before at our chosen ceremony and reception venues? If not, are you willing to visit the locations beforehand?
  • Have you worked with our planner, videographer, florist, and DJ before?

Understanding the Photographer’s Style

  • How would you define your photography style? Are there any particular photographers or styles you draw inspiration from?
  • How would you describe your working approach? Do you tend to take a discreet approach and capture candid moments, or do you prefer to be more involved and direct scenes for posed images?
  • Do you shoot using digital cameras, film cameras, or both?

Inquiring about Pricing and Packages

  • What is included in the standard package? Are there any additional features in more expensive packages?
  • Can I personalize a package according to my requirements?
  • Are engagement photographs and pre-wedding events such as rehearsal dinners included in your packages?
  • How many hours of coverage does each package provide? How much do extra hours cost?
  • Is a photo booth available as an add-on?
  • Do you provide editing, color adjustment, or any other corrective services? Is there an extra cost for these services?
  • Do you charge for travel? If so, how much and what distances are covered?

Many photographers have a specific geographical area in which they operate and may charge an additional travel fee for clients located beyond that range. If the distance is too far, clients may also be required to cover the costs of the photographer’s accommodations.

Albums and Prints

  • Is it possible to place an order for prints or albums directly with you?
  • What kind of albums do you offer, and do you provide help in selecting images and designing the album?
  • Are prints or albums part of your packages, and if so, how many pages or prints are included, and what is the expected delivery time?
  • How soon after the wedding will we receive the pictures, and what will be the mode of delivery?
  • Will we have the rights to the images?
  • Will we receive the digital images or negatives in high resolution? Is there a fee for this?
  • Will we be able to access the pictures online, and if yes, for how long?

Handling of details & Logistics
